The Amalgamated Nursery School (ANS) is a community parent cooperative school located in the Northwest Bronx in Van Cortland Village. Established in 1928 to serve The Amalgamated Park Reservoir Cooperatives and the surrounding community, ANS is a child’s laboratory for developmentally appropriate learning
Art and Music
Art and music stimulate creativity and self-expressions, and are infused into our daily curriculum which help develop early literacy and critical thinking skills
Outdoor Activities
Outdoor exploration is at the heart of our program. In every season - rain, snow, or sunshine - our teachers encourage children to discover nature, stay active, and learn through play. With two private playgrounds and regular nature walks to nearby Van Cortlandt Park, children have the space and freedom to roam, observe, and explore the world around them.
Learning extends well beyond our classroom walls, too. Our classes take thoughtful, engaging trips throughout the neighborhood to bring their studies to life - whether it’s visiting the local supermarket, the pizzeria, or other community favorites. These immersive experiences help children connect what they’re learning to the community they’re growing up in, sparking curiosity, confidence, and joy along the way.

Nutritious meals are an integral part of our daily routine, providing children with balanced and wholesome food options that promote healthy eating habits.

It is the best community school, it gave comforting feeling to know that few of the teachers were also from the Amalgamated coop community.
